Sendai Virus, a serious virus of rats, may be in the eastern Ohio and Western PA area. If you go to a pet store or visit friends with rodents, it is best to wait three hours before returning home to your rats, in order to allow time for airborne virus to die on clothing, etc. Blow your nose, wash up and change clothes when you get home before going to your rats, even if you didn't handle other rodents. If your rats show symptoms (usually respiratory), have them checked by the vet promptly, please.
