Take a look at your makeup's label and you'll walk away feeling really confused. Many of the ingredients that are found there aren't easily recognizable. Even if you buy all-natural products, you may be surprised to find that they're not all-natural at all. With this in mind, here are some ingredients to look out for and avoid.
AVOID Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)
This ingredient comes from petroleum and dries out your skin as it strips off its outermost protective layer. In doing so it exposes your body to bacteria, fungus, mold and other toxins. It also promotes brown spots and premature aging.AVOID Mineral Oil (a.k.a liquid parafinum)
This is another byproduct of petroleum. It will coat your skin like plastic, disrupting your skin's natural ability to purge itself of toxins, slowing down cell function and causing premature aging.
AVOID Silicone
Emollients that come from silicone include Dimethicone, Dimethicone Copolyol, and Cyclmethicone. They also coat your skin like plastic, making it unable to breathe and release toxins, which will then accumulate in your liver and lymph nodes where they can cause the development of tumors.
What to Choose Instead
There are some all-natural ingredients that are really good for your skin, such as Eucalyptus Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Sandalwood Extract, Lemon Oil, Apricots, Aloe Vera Gel, Vitamin E, Vitamin A and Green Tea. You can find them in products like these:
- Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Eye Shadow Duo
- Revlon ColorStay Mineral Blush/Bronzer
- Burt's Bees Super Shiny Natural Lip Gloss
- L'Oréal Paris Bare Naturale Mascara
- Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Liquid Makeup SPF 20
- Pangea Organics Lipcare
- 100% Pure Peach Pigmented Natural Concealer with SPF 20
- CoverGirl TruBlend Naturally Luminous Loose Powder
- Logona Lipstick
- Aubrey Organics Silken Earth Powder Blush
- BareMinerals Liner Shadow
Please note that this list is not all-inclusive but hopefully, now you'll be able to replace some of your toxic makeup with something that's actually healthy and good for your skin.
